The penultimate month of 2020 is here and how many of us feel like we're still in J-aug-tember?
Like all other months, November got here much sooner than expected, but I plan to focus more on the joy November brings. The early birds are starting to tick items off of their Christmas list, cosy nights in are more common and some of the lucky ones get an extra hour of sleep. And since the temperature is starting to drop and the number of layers you wear rise, I thought it best to bring you your November style capsule as quick as I could with all the winter weather wardrobe you could want.
This month we're shifting from trans-seasonal dressing into full-blown heavy knitwear, wrap wool coats and layered textures. Most pieces can be either worn by themselves and mixed-and-matched to create textured or monochromatic looks – whichever you're in the mood for this winter. Bonus: head to our Instagram highlights to find (screenshot friendly) infographics on how to style this month's capsule.
As always, towards the bottom of the grid, you can find an equally chic, affordable dupe for each piece, which doesn't compromise on material or style.
We begin this capsule with the cult-favourite Totême Annecy wrap coat. It is hand-stitched wool and cashmere, Rosie-Huntington Whiteley and Jennifer Lawrence are known to be big fans – and according to Totême is perfect for layering over tops in fall and knits in winter. It does come with quite a hefty price-tag but should you not want to invest in one right now, you can always buy a pre-loved one here (it's better for the environment too!). The Gucci belt is such a versatile addition to any wardrobe. It can be worn over dresses to emphasise your waist, to belt outerwear or even the traditional way as a belt for trousers. A very understated way to style the belt could be belt the Stella McCartney leather trousers, with the Wolford turtleneck top tucked in to create a monochromatic look while playing with different textures. I'm always recommending a good leather belt to all my wardrobe consultation clients because it's such a small detail but lifts every outfit, makes it look a little bit expensive and gives off the vibe that you've put thought into styling your look.
Inspired by Brittany Bathgate, Lindsey Holland and countless images on Pinterest, I wanted to include an oversized cotton shirt in this edit. Many shoppers underestimate the versatility of a white shirt – although as evidenced by several stylists and content creators on Instagram, a white shirt worn under knit tank tops, cardigans and knit bralettes is a favourite layering trick amongst fashion enthusiasts. I'd recommend the Anne Fontaine shirt under the Isabel Marant knit, paired with the J Brand skinny jeans and Dear Frances Spirit boots. This month's style capsule also features the first instalment of winter knitwear for this season, including knit dresses, sweater vests, cardigans, cashmere jumpers and thick scarves.
Leather is another winter-weather texture you'll see in most stores besides knitwear. It's the ideal season to invest in leather jackets, trousers and at least two pairs of boots! Knee-high boots like the Paris Texas croc-effect ones are a great pair of shoes to wear with dresses, over skinny jeans or even with sweatpants tucked into them if you're adventurous. The entire capsule can be styled with bold, gold jewellery and each item has the potential to become a fixed feature in your wardrobe for seasons to come.
